Year Two - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

Our students have been very interested in learning about the historical places within the Cranbourne area. These historical sites included the Shire Office, Cranbourne's War Memorial and Avenue of Honour, Cranbourne School, St John's Anglican Church and Cranbourne Station. Whilst some of these places have been modernised they were all established over 100 years ago. The students enjoyed noticing the differences or identifying what hasn't changed. To reflect this information, they created a Cranbourne Then and Now booklet.  We even discovered that 13 meteorites have landed in the Cranbourne area!

Over the next couple of weeks we will be comparing parents'/guardians' childhood with the students' childhood. Therefore, please talk to your child about the food you ate, toys you had and the games you played. It would be even better if you could write down some of the responses for your child to bring to school.

Religious Education: celebrating Catholic Education week by continuing to unpack 'Pilgrims of Hope' and completing art work to represent this theme.

Mathematics: using mental strategies to add and subtract numbers.

English: identifying the main events in the text, 'The Little Refugee' by Anh Do will be a key focus. We will also learn to write a story from the perspective of another person.  Students will further develop their understanding of base words and suffixes for 'un-' and '-ful'

Auslan:  we will be undertaking a Mid-Cycle check for Units 3A, 3B and 3C.

Social/Emotional Learning & RRRR:  students will be will learning how families can differ and the importance of showing respect for others, regardless of our diversity.
