Year One - Spotlight on Learning
Jerusalem Community
Dear Families,
It's hard to believe we have completed four weeks of Term 2! Jerusalem has had a full week of learning this week. We revisited learning sessions for UPSTANDING-You have the power (standing up against bullying) this week.
Welcome back Mrs. Honan! We are so happy to have you back and we pray for a speedy recovery for Ms. Krytenberg as she is unwell.
Religious Education focus: Thank you to the parents who sent through their Baptism photos. If you do not have Baptism photos, please send us a celebration snapshot that relates to your own faith. This week we learnt about Mary's journey in Jesus' life. Students reflected on how Mary felt proud of her son and how she would have felt sad for him, at his death.
English focus:This week we have focused on adding the suffix -ing to words.
Mathematics focus: We are expanding our knowledge around addition : We practised this game that can easily be played at home using a deck of cards. Remember to take away the picture cards.
SEL: . This week we continued to look at the specific words in the feelings continuum and what scenarios might cause these feelings. We looked at the word 'struggling'
History: This term we are focusing on the book 'My Place' by Nadia Wheatly, to learn about Australian and Indigenous history. This week we looked at Heinrich's story from 1878. The discussion is rich as we look at how Australia became such a diverse land since European settlement.
AUSLAN: This week we have learned these signs.
Religious Education focus: Jerusalem will continue to learn about Mary, the mother of Jesus as an important figure within the Catholic faith.
English focus: It is National Simultaneous story time on the 21st of May. Since it is a school closure day for students, we will read the book 'The truck cat' throughout the whole week. During Phonics we will learn the spelling rule for -un as a prefix to base words.
Mathematics focus: Students will continue to expand their knowledge on Addition through games and explicit teaching of concepts.
SEL: Students will be learning about specific vocabulary relating to our morning check-in routine.
History: We will continue to work with on our Inquiry question based on the book 'My place'.
AUSLAN Focus: Students will be revising units 3A-3C and completing a mid cycle assessment.
