Trish Star - Leader of Student Wellbeing and Pastoral Care

Dear Marian Community

As we begin Semester 2, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our returning students and those who are just starting with us. We are excited to be back in the classroom, and we are looking forward to a productive and successful term.

It was wonderful to see so many parents, carers and students at the Parent/Teacher/Student conferences in week 1. The opportunity to meet face to face is invaluable. As well as providing valuable insight into your child's education, it is a great way to build community. Students from Years 7 to 10 also participated in their Semester 1 Awards Presentations. It was wonderful to see such a broad range of students receiving awards for their effort and achievement. The beginning of a new semester is a great time to reflect on past achievements and set new goals. Students will be looking at Learning and Wellbeing goals with their home room teachers and these will be recorded on their final report for 2025.

Expectations

I would like to take this opportunity to remind all students of the expectations we need to uphold. It is the responsibility of each student to arrive at school on time, dressed in appropriate school attire, and with all the necessary materials for each class. It is the expectation that boys are clean shaven - no beards or moustaches. Nail polish should be neutral and earrings kept to minimum.  We also expect our students to show respect to their peers, teachers and the school environment at all times.

Attendance

Over the remainder of the year I ask that you are mindful of your child’s attendance. Regular days away from school impact learning and wellbeing. Remember that an attendance figure of 80% means your child is missing, on average, one day every week. If you are aware of something that may be challenging your child’s attendance, please reach out to the relevant Pastoral Leader. Together we may be able to get things back on track.

Wellness Wednesday

The Yr 11 Wellbeing Team have an initiative this term where each Wednesday they will be making an announcement during homeroom, giving a small quote or affirmation and taking small steps to encourage their peers to support each other's wellbeing.  They are hoping to encourage respect, caring and kindness.

The initial affirmation is their chosen theme :  “Hard to ask, harder to stay silent” .

Each week they will ask different year levels to provide the affirmation and this will be displayed in classrooms and around the College. They look forward to seeing what the year groups come up with.

Thank you for supporting the Yr 11 team.

We are confident that this will be a fantastic term for our students, and we look forward to seeing them thrive and achieve their goals. Thank you for your continued support of our College, and I wish you all the best for the coming term.
