Each year, we schedule one faith development workshop per year level. In Grades 3 and 6, the focus is on Sacraments and the other year levels choose a topic related to the Religious Education curriculum. These nights are wonderful celebrations of learning and a chance for children to share their faith development with their families.
On Thursday 8 August at 6:30pm we had our Grade 1/2 Parent/Child Workshop. The focus for the evening was 'Joy', which is our school theme for 2024. We explored how joy can enhance our children's learning experiences and strengthen the bond between peers, teachers and families. Throughout the evening, teachers led discussions topics and hands on activities.
The Feast of the Assumption is on Thursday 15 August. This is a big day for OLA each year as we celebrate our namesake. On this day, we will attend a whole school mass and students will engage in activities to learn more about Mary. We will also follow this up on the Friday with a day of song and music with local legend Drew Lane and a concert for all families to be part of at 2:15pm.
Our Parish and School is named in great honour of this momentous event. The church teaches us that Mary is the greatest saint of all. She is the patron Saint of Australia. At the end of her life, Jesus took Mary, body and soul, to heaven where she still cares for us while we live on Earth. Christians have always loved and honoured Mary from the beginning of the story of the church. They have prayed to her for help from the earliest times. Mary is a true model of discipleship within our church. We know how much Jesus loves her. Mary always leads us to her son, Jesus.
You are invited to join us at Mass on Thursday 15 August at 9:15am.
“We must teach more by example than by word.”
On Thursday 8 August, we celebrated the Feast of St Mary of the Cross Mackillop. Students had the opportunity to learn about Mary Mackillop and her impact on Catholic Education. Classes participated in a prayer service and reflected on what actions they can take to live more like Mary.
Ever generous God,
You inspired St Mary MacKillop
to live her life faithful
to the Gospel of Jesus Christ
and constant in bringing hope
and encouragement
to those who were disheartened, lonely, or needy.
We ask the Holy Spirit to inspire us to live
like Mary MacKillop, with courage,
trust, and hope.
Amen
