Research Opportunities

There are a number of research opportunities available for teachers to engage with. VAPS does not have an association with these research projects, but they are in areas where VAPS supporters may have an interest.

  1. The first one is an interview on teaching philosophy in primary schools
  2. The second is a 5-10 survey on embedding to the critical and creative thinking curriculum in classrooms
  3. The third is an interview on data use in schools.

Please see below:

1.

Recruitment of teachers who have taught philosophy and are primary school teachers

As a teacher involved with philosophy in schools, you are invited to participate in a researchproject that seeks to understand the impact of integrating philosophy into primary school programs. The projects asks: How do Australian school teachers perceive philosophy programs in primary schools?

The aim of this project is for teachers to contribute their valuable perspectives and experiencesabout integrating philosophy into primary school programs. Their insights can enrich the understanding of the potential benefits and challenges of incorporating philosophy into thecurriculum. By sharing their experiences, teachers can help inform future educational practices and initiatives, ultimately enhancing the quality of education for students.

Participation includes an individual 45-minute interview conducted on Zoom or Microsoft Teams. It will be conducted at a time that suits you and will be audio-recorded to assist with data collection.

Research Project - Toward data justice in Australian schools.

We are researchers from Deakin University conducting a research project on the datafication of Australian secondary schools (the digitisation of analogue data andthe proliferation of new kinds of data and data analytics). We are looking to hear fromschool staff working in government schools how they use digital data, what they think ofthe data and software they work with, how it affects their work, but also how they manage students’ digital privacy.

If you work in a Victorian high school as a teacher or librarian, we invite you to participate in an approximately 40-minute interview. The interviews may be conducted over the phone or on Zoom. Unfortunately, we cannot offer you any reimbursement.

If you are interested, we will email you a Plain Language Statement with more information about the project.

Please contact Dr Chris Zomer (c.zomer@deakin.edu.au) if you consider participating inthis study, or if you have any questions.

Best wishes,

Dr Luci Pangrazio
