Last week we welcomed 10 students and two staff from Sanshui Foreign Language School BFSU. This tour followed a visit to their school that Susie Holcombe and I made in March of this year. It was a highly successful visit, with positive feedback from our guests and from College students and staff. The students: joined in classes with College students; had a campfire lunch at Mirranatwa; went horse riding in our equestrian centre; and enjoyed a day trip to Port Fairy. My thanks to Mr Eric Gong for his coordination of the tour. Through the visit, we have re-established and strengthened our connection with Sanshui, and they warmly invited us for a return visit.

I am a big advocate for schools providing opportunities for international engagement, whether welcoming visitors to our school or providing study tours overseas. I understand well the financial and logistical challenges, but believe that our students benefit greatly from seeing that people live and think differently elsewhere but also that they are the match for anyone anywhere in terms of ability and work ethic. In this vein, I was pleased to announce to students during our international assembly on Wednesday last week that we are finalising plans for a China Language and Culture Tour in the March/April holidays of next year, which will include time at school in Sanshui. Further details will be provided in the coming weeks, along with the full and expanded list of proposed extra-curricular trips and tours for 2025 and 2026.
