SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

At Korumburra Secondary College we are proud to know all our students, and to cater for every individual. We achieve this through events and activities such as last Tuesday. On this day every student across the school participated in a Student 360 – an opportunity to spend 20 minutes with their mentor, celebrating what they achieved last term, reflecting on, planning and monitoring their progress, talking about any other issues relating to school. This activity not only ensures that all students have a safe and supportive environment at school, but these are also some of the most effective teaching and learning strategies.

At the same time, we also completed our course counselling for our current Year 9, 10 and 11 students. Through this our students were able to sit with a trained course counsellor to focus on their areas of strength and interest and consider how the subjects they choose will support them in the future. This is an exciting time for all students, and we are looking forward to watching them pursue these classes and pathways next year.

On Tuesday and Wednesday last week it was great to welcome the Grade 5 students from our local primary schools for their first taste of secondary schooling. These students participated in some interactive Science and LOTE classes, before enjoying some lunch together. This is just the start of their journey to secondary schooling. We look forward to seeing them again on several occasions next year as we continue a staged transition program to ensure they arrive in Year 7 feeling safe and supported, and ready for class!

Last week our Year 10s also completed a week of Work Experience. This was a great opportunity for these students to experience being in the workforce and find out more about one industry in particular. We had a lot of positive feedback from employers letting us know how positive and hard working our students were.
