Godly Play ~

A teaching & learning strategy we use at St. Mel's to engage in Scripture is Godly Play. Godly Play is a way of making meaning through story, wonder, and play. It nurtures our spiritual lives by honouring children's centrality, competency, and capacity. Below are some of the wondering & reflections for the Creation Story by our Upper Students.

Mary MacKillop's Feast Day ~ August 8th

We remembered and acknowledged the feast day of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Australia’s first Saint on Thursday, August 8th, her feast day. We acknowledge the wonderful work of St Mary MacKillop and all the sisters of St Joseph, may they be role models of compassion, resilience & hope to us all.

Feast of the Assumption ~

The 15th of August is the Feast of the Assumption. We will celebrate this Marian Feast in prayer across the school. We think about Mary, the mother of Jesus, in a special way. Her life was one of service and devotion to God, to her Son Jesus, to her family and to her community. Mary is an example to each one of us here of faith, generosity and love.

We will also celebrate this special feast of the church at our Whole School Mass on August 16th at 9.15 am.

We continue to open our hearts and give to those in need during the winter months with our Winter Appeal for St Vincent DePaul. Thank you to those who have already dropped off items to the office.

Please support our St. Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal by donating to those in our local community who are in need this winter.

If you can donate we are looking for donations of:

  • Non-perishable food items, tins of food, long-life milk, cereal, toiletries (toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant etc.), winter gloves, socks, beanies (new).

Collection baskets have been placed in our entrance foyer for donated goods to be placed in.

Thank you for your support.

Stay tuned for a CRAZY Hair Day this term that our Year 6 Social Justice Team has begun to organise to raise much-needed funds for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
