Term 3, Week 2 - Friday 26th July, 2024

Dear Families of OLSC

Welcome back to Term 3.  What a busy start to the term!

Sam Yousif

On Friday 19th Sam began her family leave as she and Ben eagerly await the arrival of their first child.  While we will miss her greatly we look forward to Sam's return in 2025 and wish her well as her home is about to get much much busier.  I am sure that Sam will provide us with a photo to share once the big day arrives.

Welcome Back Lucy

You may have noticed that after a long absence that Lucy is now back on the crossing.

Lucy is a familiar face and offers a warm welcome to each person that uses the crossing from both OLSC and Manor Lakes College.  Lucy is in remission and recovering well from her recent illness.

The students and all of us that use the crossing on Howqua Way were very happy to see her back on duty.

Congratulations Joanne, Elson, Eason and Elvin

Four of our students were recently given the opportunity to showcase their skills at a piano concert.  I have been told that they all rose to the occasion and did their families proud!

Literacy News - ADAM WALLACE'S VISIT

On Monday, Adam visited our school and we all had a wonderful time listening to his very funny stories. He shared some writing tips for when we might get stuck with ideas and helped us to draw some very funny and expressive cartoons. Adam's books have been a huge hit in all learning centres and we are so thrilled we were able to meet him in person.

If anyone would like to order some of Adam's books, here is a flyer detailing how you can do so. These will then be delivered to school and handed to your child but, unfortunately, Adam will not be able to sign any of these books.

BOOK WEEK

Book Week will be here before we know it so it is time to start planning for the dress-up parade. It runs from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd August. This year's theme is 'Reading is Magic'. On Thursday 22nd August, students are encouraged to come to school dressed in a book-related costume or they might wear something magical. We will be holding our parade at 9am on this morning in the Sports Hall, families are welcome to attend.

The Book Fair will be at OLSC throughout this week which is a very exciting time for our staff and students. Our Arts Leaders will also be holding year-level colouring competitions. More details to come on all of the above.

Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge

There are just over 40 days left of the Premiers' Reading Challenge. Good luck to all of those students who have chosen to participate!

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with your child's teacher via Dojo or email me at kmorrissey@olscwyn.catholic.edu.au

July First Eucharist Community Mass

Last Sunday many of our families joined us for the final of our First Eucharist Masses.  At this Mass 20 students from Year 4 received Communion for the very first time.  The students were prepared well by John and the 3/4 staff and the celebration was a very special occasion.  I thank all of the community who made this celebration a very special one.

Swimming Program - Online Information Night (August 6th, 7:00 pm)

On the 6th August we will have a information session about our upcoming whole school swimming program.  This will provide an overview of the swimming program and give the opportunity for any questions.  More information and a link will be sent out next term.

OLSC Trivia Night

The Parents and Friends Group have planned an opportunity for the adults in the community to gather.  On Friday September 6th we will host a Trivia Night.  This is the first adults event that has been planned since the end of the pandemic.

Thanks everyone for a smooth start to Term 3.  At the bottom of the page there are a number of fliers containing information on sporting opportunities in our local community.
