Principal's Message

Wawa, Wominjika.

Here at Old Orchard Primary School, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we visit each day, the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin nation.

We acknowledge and respect the elders and leaders past and present and the elders and leaders of all of the cultures and nationalities that are part of the Old Orchard Primary School community. We express our gratitude towards the orchards that were kept in place by the peoples on this land before us.

We thank the traditional owners for sharing this beautiful land that we all love, and for keeping the land, sky, waterways and animals all in great condition for thousands of years, not only for themselves but for all the generations to come.

Athletics

On Monday the year 3 – 6 students headed off to our annual house athletics sports.  The weather we were dealt for the day was rather unfortunate and in the end the program was shortened to allow for a return bus to our warm dry classrooms.  We’re incredibly proud of the efforts of our students, many of whom were experiencing a run on a real athletics track for the first time.  With the athletics program at the Olympics beginning next week I’m sure some dreams and goals of track glory may have been ignited!  Particular thanks go to James and Sheree for their organisation of the opportunity for our students.  We were really lucky to have students from Forest Hill College Sports program providing invaluable assistance on the day. Thank you also to the parent volunteers and staff who assisted with the various events.

100 Days of Prep

Tuesday this week brought with it the celebration of our beautiful prep students attending school for their 100th day!  The theme was 100 days brighter and goodness were they bright!  The Preps enjoyed dressing up in bright colours, sharing various collections of 100, singing, counting, popping bubbles, spending time with their year 6 buddies and topping the day off with a dance party!  Our whole school community has loved watching the development of our preps over their first 100 days of schooling.  We are proud of each of them and also excited to watch them grow and learn.  Thanks to Beth and Nan who have settled them into school life so brilliantly and organised a wonderful celebration with them.

Olympic Games

As a sports fan I have enjoyed the opportunity to watch the Olympics across the course of the week. Whether you enjoy sport of not there are many lessons and valuable points of reflection we can take from the happenings in Paris.  Values such as striving towards a goal, working as a team, managing disappointments, the feeling of belonging, being proud of your achievements etc are lessons we can all take from such an event.  I’d encourage families to spend some time together talking about some of these aspects of the Olympics over the next week.

Welcome Back Clare

This week we welcome Clare Murray back from her leave.  We are looking forward to hearing all about her adventures around Europe.  A reminder that Duncan is on leave until Monday 12th August.  Clare Murray and Jen McCann will both be available should you need to contact the school.

Looking forward to more terrific learning in Week 4!
