Enjoying our holidays, taking time to rest

As we approach the end of Term 3, it’s a perfect time to reflect on and celebrate the tremendous learning and growth that has taken place in our students. Our recent student-led conferences have been a wonderful showcase of our students' hard work and achievements, offering a special glimpse into their educational journey for both parents and teachers.

As we wrap up this term, it’s also important to embrace the school holidays as a much-needed chance to recharge and spend quality time with loved ones. In the words of William Shakespeare, “Rest, that is the cure for all.”

Scripture is filled with God's promises to provide rest when we seek Him. God is an endless source of peace and strength, and He created us to need Him! We can clearly see this in verses like:

  • Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
  • Exodus 33:14 “The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Taking time to rest and rejuvenate helps us (adults and children alike) to recover from busy periods and return with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

School holidays are a wonderful opportunity for families to come together and enjoy quality time away from the usual routines. This special break allows us to cherish the moments we often miss during the busy school term. To make the most of this time, consider engaging in simple yet enriching activities that everyone can enjoy.

  • Take a leisurely walk or hike in a nearby park or national park - it's a great way to explore the outdoors and get some fresh air.
  • Organise a family game night with board games or card games that you already have at home.
  • Have the kids help out with chores around the house, giving areas of need a good spring clean while listening to uplifting and happy music.
  • Get outside and enjoy the sun at the beach or local playground where the kids can climb, swing, dig and get active.
  • For a creative twist, try a DIY craft project using materials you already have around the house, or bake some treats together, which can be both delicious and educational.

These activities not only create lasting memories but also help strengthen family bonds. Remember, the simplest activities often bring the most joy, making school holidays a treasured time for reconnecting and having fun as a family.

We would also love to encourage you to think about how you can intentionally enter God’s presence with your children. A simple yet challenging practice of being quiet and still in God’s presence can open us to hearing from our Creator. We can help our children pause and reflect on His word and offer prayers of thanks for all He has done in our lives over the last ten weeks.

I have been particularly blessed by a song my colleague played for us during a staff devotion this term based on Psalm 23. The song is “Still Waters (Psalm 23)” by Leanna Crawford. As you listen to it, may it be a timely reminder of our Great Shepherd who tends to our physical and spiritual needs, and may we find rest in Him in the coming break.
