Christmas Choir

Term 4 brings a good dose of Christmas cheer into Performing Arts and choir members definitely have a sprinkle already! We meet on Tuesday lunchtimes in the theatre and are preparing for 3 performances this term. It's been terrific to hear from students they are practising the lyrics in the car or just before bedtime. Here is some students during some mouth and vocal warm ups last week.

Our booked performances:

BUPA Aged Care Home, Templestowe – Tuesday 19 November 2pm

ACPS Carols picnic – Thursday December 5th, exact time tbc

Warrandyte Community Carols – Sat 14th December 7pm

Creative expressions

I have been blown away by the creativity of students this fortnight when they were given a very open-ended task to create a music, dance and drama piece to match a printed image. They managed to represent fire, mountains summits, crashing waves, rainy city streets, dark forests, long staircases and rainstorms with graceful moves, percussion compositions, storylines and teamwork. It's moments like these that I am reminded how important it is for students to have choice and creative opportunities to express themselves.

Singalong songs

This term we are exploring shared singing in class with partner songs, ostinato parts (repeated patterns), rounds, actions, cumulative songs and instrumental accompaniments. These songs help build language development, memory and recall, attention and focus, musical rhythm and pitch, confidence and turn taking. We will commence preparation in coming weeks for our annual Christmas picnic class musical items - pop 5th December in your calendars.
