Senior School

Welcome to Term 4

In Grade 5, the inquiry focus is on Government. Students will learn about the 3 level of government, how our voting system works and what responsibility each level of government has. We will be tying this topic into our Literacy where possible. In Reading, we are using the new Morris Gleitzman novel, Help Around The House, as a companion to our subject. In Writing, students will be researching information about a former Prime Minister and use this information to write a biography. Later on in the term, all Year 5 students will have an opportunity to apply for 2025 Leadership roles and this will be strongly linked to our inquiry unit.

In Grade 6, this term will focus on the transition from primary school to secondary school. By week 5, the majority of secondary schools will have visited ACPS, allowing our students to meet Year 7 coordinators and ask questions about their future schools.

A reminder that all State Schools, will have their Transition day on Tuesday 10 December

Our writing this term will focus on planning, drafting and hand publishing an Autobiography, reflecting on our time at ACPS. This has already been a class favourite, with many memories from the past being the topic of daily discussions. Students are asked to continue to find old photos and work samples from home that they can digitalise and include in their final product.

Basketball Round Robin

On Wednesday, selected Grade 5's played in a round robin tournament against other schools in our district.

Both the boys and girls were super competitive against some much bigger and better teams. Not once did they drop their heads in defeat and continued to have a smile on their face and respect the opposition but gave it a real crack. There was a big emphasis on not showboating and we remained respectful the whole time and celebrated our wins appropriately.

The girls came away with 1 win out of their 5 games and the boys didn’t quite get a win in their 6 games. It was a tough session going back to back in these games with very little respite so they did extremely well.

A big thank you to Miss Buzzini, the supercoach, for taking the time to coach our students. She asked us to send the following message to all players "It was wonderful to witness  the respect and sportsmanship they (the students) showed. It was beautiful to see their support and encouragement for one another."
