Grade 1 and 2

Welcome back to Term 4

A warm welcome to everyone for the beginning of what is set to be a busy Term 4.  It is wonderful to be back in the classroom and I hope everyone had a chance to relax and recoup after Term 3. The students have settled well upon returning to school and we are looking forward to a productive and positive term ahead. With this in mind, we would take this opportunity to remind everyone that a steady and consistent approach to the term will be required to keep everything in check and ensure we are all in good shape for the end of the 2024 school year.

English

In Writing, we will be consolidating understandings about Narratives (stories) and their structure and features. Students will continue to build their descriptive language (Word Choice repertoire), explore different sentence starters and vocabulary choices to retell events in an engaging way, to make their writing more enjoyable to read. Through Narrative writing, students will continue to build understandings around the key aspects of sentence structure by correctly including full stops, capital letters, describing words and other forms of punctuation in sentences. Students will take part in a variety of activities and opportunities to consolidate these fundamental aspects of sentence structure that are important for successful writing.

To start this term we have continued to work on reading comprehension skills. Each week we have a class story for our focus that is linked to our Inquiry unit about 'Our Place' being Australia with an Indigenous focus. The strategies include predicting, visualising, connecting, questioning, inferring and summarising. Students actively engage with the text, think critically about the topic and promote a deeper understanding. Take a look at some of our work samples on predicting and visualising. Also this week as part of our English block we had 'Reading Through Art'. The Prep to Grade 2 students were split into 3 groups and worked with Mrs Callaway, Ms Zanatta or Miss Buzzini. Students then completed an artwork with elements from their reading.

Grandparents and Special Persons Day

The Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students are hosting this years Grandparents and Special Persons Day.

We are excited to welcome our special guests to Andersons Creek Primary School. The students are busy preparing for our special morning, where we will be kick starting the event with a performance in the theatre. Grandparents and Special friends are then invited to join in an activity with their ACPS student, followed by a morning tea provided in the staffroom.

We look forward to spending the morning with you all.
