Specialist Fair

We would again like to pass on a very big thank you to everyone who attended our Specialist Fair last Thursday 12th September. It was a raging success! The afternoon kicked off with Sport Leader’s interview with former Olympian, Joshua Simmonds, and continued after with musical performances (in English and Mandarin) from many of our talented students. In the STEAM Space we saw the Year 5 and 6 innovative art theme park attractions, videos from both Visual Arts and STEM, and student-led robotics and 3D printing demonstrations.

Throughout the afternoon the school leaders roamed to see what was happening throughout the event. Here are some of their key takeaways:

School Leaders- Mia and Nevaan: Everyone had a great time at the Specialist Fair. The students had an amazing time performing and presenting their work to the BEPS community. In the COLA, rock band performed ‘Sounds of Then’, expert ukulele performed ‘Counting Stars’ and beginners ukulele performed ‘Try Everything’.

STEM Leader - Sai: The Specialist Fair was an amazing event for students to show what they have done in Specialist classes. In STEAM, students have been working on theme park attractions, using simple machines that they have been learning about in STEM. The students chose a type of art to use in the theme park attraction, like interactive art. During the Specilast Fair there was a also a robotics demonstration, showcased by the robotics teams. There was also a 3D demonstration, videos showcasing the interviews with the JMSS students and the art clubs work being displayed on the screens in the STEAM area. There were also lots of music performances being performed in the school COLA and an interview with the Olympian, Joshua Simmonds.

Inquiry Leaders- Yumi and Magnum: I saw the choir perform and record videos/photos, the songs were: 'Try Everything' by Jr Ukulele, 'Counting Stars' by Sr. Ukulele, 'We are BEPS Students' by Jr Cohort, 'Sounds of Then' by Sr. Choir. At the start we interviewed a special guest and former professional hockey player.

Student Voice by Nisha: The amazing student voice team made a spectacular display of our work with Foodbank. We are organising a food drive to gather all spare household items such as hygiene products and fresh produce such as fruits and veggies.

Languages Leaders- Jessica and Linkai : All the students who participated in singing 'We are BEPS Students' all had a great time and enjoyed singing the song in front of many parents and teachers. All the students who sang spent many of their recess and lunch playing time rehearsing with April in the classrooms.

On behalf of the Language Captains and April, we thank and congratulate everybody who has participated and gave up their time. Thank you for your efforts and making this possible.

P.E Leaders John and Mayumi:

To kick off the Specialist Fair, Mayumi and I interviewed our special guest, Joshua Simmonds. Josh is an Olympic Hockey player who won silver at the Tokyo Olympics. It was a great experience to interview him,  and we really liked hearing about his game preparation and how he bounced back from losses.

Yellow House Leaders- Kiaan and Kayley: The work was outstanding as every parent enjoyed the gallery walk. The community loved the performances and aesthetic feel in the Year 5 area. This event invited the community to come and experience the children's work.

The band performances were outstanding and everyone was having fun while performing, they all showed a great value of teamwork. It was awesome to see that a mix of boys and girls were participating in the Mandarin choir performances and the choir.  They all did a fantastic job showing confidence towards the audience, and the audience was respectful and all enjoyed the performances put on by the hardworking students. It was a great Specialist Fair, and great to see many parents staying back to watch their children and enjoying all of the performances.

Blue House Leader- Agastya and Meeya : The audience enjoyed the performances and many people walked out with smiles on their faces. This makes this event one of the most significant events that BEPS has ever held. This made the community expand and grow with its achievements.  There were many happy faces and there were many colourful pieces of work and many parents were happy to see their children's work. Parents and students really enjoyed the performances. The students work was interesting to see and there were many parents staying to see the work that the students had completed

Performing Arts Leader- Brayden and Casta: The performances were extraordinary and the audience was enjoying the music performed. The performances included ‘My Island Home’ performed by junior choir, ‘We are BEPS Students’ in Mandarin performed by senior students, ‘You and Me’ performed by some junior students, ‘Try Everything’ performed by beginner ukulele, ‘Counting Stars’ performed by senior ukulele and ‘The BEPS School Song’ / ‘Sounds of Then’ performed by Rock Band. Boen, Tianya, and Patrick each delivered impressive piano solos, while Eleanor's lovely oboe performance added a beautiful touch to the concert, all taking place in the Band Room.

Community Leader- Elysa: Our community enjoyed amazing performances such as senior ukulele group, rock band, beginners ukulele group, senior choir and junior choir. Having the parents visit our BEPS community was a great opportunity to review and reflect on our achievements for the year.

Green House Leader- Luca: Many people enjoyed watching Joshua Simmonds talk about his experience, and also about his career, the challenges he has faced, and why he enjoys playing Hockey. In the Year 4 portables, many people were displaying their Tinkercad 3D Artworks, Languages pieces and many more. I was involved in the school band, and I enjoyed looking at everyone’s projects.

Eco Leader- Theo: There were many amazing works from the Specialist Fair, such as the Year 2 art work and so on. Not just that seeing people working with different friends is a surprise for me and my friends, we also saw many parents being shocked about their children's work because of how much they had improved from the start of the year.

Red House Leaders- Taara and Darsh: As we went to other classrooms, we saw many kids showing their parents what they’ve learned in the specialist curriculum. The parents seemed to be impressed with what their child had learned over the past terms. By looking at all of the hard work and effort that they put into their work, it just showed how dedicated they are to their learning. There were many great artworks from all the grade levels with a variety of different things. I took lots of photos and saw many amazing masterpieces.
