2025 Student Leadership Workshop

“Many will start fast; few will finish strong.” — Gary Ryan Blair

Although the 2025 Student Leadership Team (SLT) has only begun their leadership journey, the list of ideas for the next twelve months has been steadily growing long before we donned the black tie.

Coming back to school, we all wanted to hit the ground running. Ideas had been brewing over the holidays, and we were ready to get a move on: How can I assist my year group? My colour houses? My portfolio? But as leaders we quickly realised that, like racing, no matter how fast your race car is, it will not go far if there is only one mechanic in the pit stop.

We needed to unite, to lean on each other, and think about ways we can we SERVE our community.

Last week, the SLT had the opportunity to unpack this at the annual Student Leadership Workshop. The two days were a chance not only to untangle our personal ideas but to learn about our wellbeing, self-worth, and why we should have confidence in our abilities. Through this, we also discovered each other's plans of action, intentions, and shared visions. Soon enough, our individual ideas began to weave together, forming a collective mosaic of what we want to contribute to the College legacy—and there’s so much more to come.

A prime example of this shared vision came when we were tasked with deciding the College theme for 2025. It would be a lie to say it was an easy process. Open-ended discussions often lead to justifiable disagreements, and we all had slightly different approaches. However, this melting point of opinions and emotions demonstrated to us our immense pride, passion and advocacy that runs through this team and the importance of getting it right. It was through our unity that we reached a decision, a testament to the strength of our collective leadership.

Though our workshop primarily involved personal and team development, we were also enlightened to the collective responsibility of the Year 12 cohort. Each student who dons the black tie holds the capacity to contribute towards the College legacy. The class of 2025 is rich in strong moral character, and a formal leadership role should not dissuade one’s active participation within the community.

Overall, the workshop was a highly enriching experience which would not have been possible without the time, knowledge and experience of Ms Santiago, Ms Fisicaro and Dr Lavorato. Without these three individuals, we would not have the insight to help, positively, impact the College.

We are excited to be working with all of you in the coming year, and we cannot wait to see how we, together, will leave our mark on the College.
