Grade 4/5

Welcome back to Term 4!

I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday. It has been wonderful to see the students excited to be back at school and ready to learn!

In Literacy, we have written a recount about our holidays and continued our work with The Wild Robot. Not only are we reading and discussing the text, but we are also working through activities designed to develop vocabulary and improve sentence-level writing. It has been fantastic to see the students gain confidence in identifying dependent and independent clauses and constructing their own sentences using these key concepts.

In Mathematics, we have continued exploring decimals. Our maths sessions have had a real buzz as students have improved their accuracy and confidence when working with decimal numbers. They have been reading decimals, matching them to their equivalent fractions, and ordering them on a number line. As a fun challenge, students selected a decimal number between 0.01 and 0.99 and worked together to order themselves from smallest to largest. There was lots of discussion and great teamwork as they successfully placed themselves in the correct order!

In Humanities, students have been learning about the history of Australia. This week, they created facts about Australia and added them to our Australian flag display. There were lots of amazing facts shared during this session!

In Sport with Mrs G, students were given the task of designing a station as part of a whole-class sports circuit. They loved the idea and were very sensible and responsible in their selection of equipment and activities.
