Hoop Time Heroes Shine at Regional Finals!

We are incredibly proud of our three Hazel Glen College Hoop Time Basketball teams, who represented our school with outstanding skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship. After a fantastic Term 3 campaign, all three teams qualified for the Regional Finals held this term – an impressive achievement in itself!

Throughout the competition, every player demonstrated our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, and Relationships, both on and off the court. Their commitment, teamwork, and positive attitude were a true reflection of Hazel Glen College's spirit.

Our All Star Boys team played with great determination, making it all the way to the semi-finals, where they narrowly went down by just two points in a thrilling contest. The All Star Girls team also showed incredible grit and skill, reaching the play-off for a place in the State Finals, only to fall just short in another close game.

A huge congratulations goes to our Future Stars team, who played with confidence, teamwork, and energy to win through to the State Finals, which will be held next month! We can’t wait to see them represent Hazel Glen College on the state stage.

A big thank you to our coaches, staff, and families for their ongoing support, encouragement, and commitment to our basketball program. Well done to all our players for an exceptional effort – you’ve made the entire Hazel Glen College community proud!

Go Hazel Glen!

Year 5 Sport

Each Wednesday afternoon, Year 5 students enthusiastically take part in their ongoing Sport program. Over the past few weeks, students have enjoyed playing a range of games including dodgeball, netball and soccer. These sessions give them the chance to stay active, strengthen their teamwork skills and engage in friendly competition with different house colour teams.

Students continue to demonstrate our College values of Respect, Resilience, Responsibility and Relationships during sport, both on and off the field. These values shape the way they play, support and communicate with one another. To show their College pride, students are welcome to wear their HGC-approved sports tops each Wednesday afternoon.

Year 5 Incursion Market Manoeuvres

In Week 6, our Year 5 students took part in an action-packed incursion where they stepped into the shoes of real-life entrepreneurs and discovered how our economy really works!

Through a series of exciting games and challenges, students explored big ideas like needs and wants, supply and demand and making smart choices, all while running their very own classroom economy.

The workshop was filled with energy, teamwork and creativity as students built businesses, bought and sold goods and experienced firsthand how trade and competition shape a market.

It was a fantastic day of real-world learning, where students developed important skills in problem solving, decision making and collaboration, all while having an incredible amount of fun!

Every Day Counts at Hazel Glen College

Attendance and Learning Go Hand in Hand

When children attend Hazel Glen College regularly, they are more likely to stay on top of their learning, feel confident in their academic abilities and enjoy being part of their classroom community. Each day at our College offers new learning experiences, important practice and the chance to build friendships and routines that support success.

When students miss school often, it can be challenging to catch up on lessons, and they may start to feel disconnected from their peers and teachers. Even small amounts of time away can make it harder to maintain confidence and motivation.

By aiming for consistent attendance, you can help your children develop strong learning habits, a sense of belonging and the resilience they need to thrive, both academically and socially. Together, we can help every child reach their potential. One College, Everyone Matters.

At Hazel Glen College, we place a strong emphasis on the importance of attending school every day.

Why Attendance Matters

Every day at our College plays a vital role in your child’s growth and success. Regular attendance helps your child to:

  • Build strong foundations by developing essential skills and knowledge across all learning areas
  • Grow socially and emotionally through friendships and daily interactions that boost confidence and a sense of belonging
  • Stay on track with their learning, reducing the risk of falling behind and feeling overwhelmed

Understanding Attendance Categories

To help families monitor attendance, we use the following categories:

  • Repeated Absences: 5–10 days absent per term
  • Ongoing At-Risk Absence: 11–15 days absent per term
  • Chronic Absence: 16–25 days absent per term

We understand there are times when absences are unavoidable, such as due to illness. However, regular attendance and punctuality are key to your child’s academic progress, social development, and overall wellbeing.

Supporting Your Child’s Attendance

Setting up positive routines and addressing attendance concerns early can help your child feel more engaged and connected at school. Here are some practical ways you can support regular attendance:

  • Talk to your child about school. Ask how they feel about school life, what they enjoy and whether anything is worrying them
  • Watch for common issues, such as:
    • Bullying or cyberbullying
    • Feeling isolated or disconnected
    • Struggles with schoolwork or feeling overwhelmed
    • Lack of engagement with subjects
    • Difficulties with friendships or teacher relationships
    • Competing commitments or lack of motivation
    • Feeling misunderstood or culturally excluded
  • Celebrate attendance milestones. Acknowledge and encourage consistency and punctuality
  • Model commitment by showing how you follow through with your own responsibilities
  • Encourage involvement in school activities, such as sports, clubs, or other interests. These can help build friendships and a stronger sense of belonging
  • Establish consistent routines, including:
    • Getting a good night’s sleep
    • Finishing homework
    • Packing school bags the night before
    • Having breakfast and getting ready on time
    • Organising travel arrangements, such as walking with a friend

Let’s Work Together

Remember every day counts. If you have concerns about your child’s attendance, please reach out to their classroom teacher to discuss a plan moving forward. Together, we can work towards a positive, consistent school experience for your child.
