What's Happening In Secondary

News and Information from Secondary

Looking Forward to a Great Term 4!

Welcome to Term 4 — blink and you’ll miss it! It is shaping up to be a full and exciting term across Secondary with new option subjects, PAT testing, end-of-year celebrations, and a long list of experiences that bring learning to life.

Students will be diving into new elective areas, building the bodies of remote-control cars, exploring photography through hands-on incursions, and preparing for key events like the Surf Carnival and the combined Leighland Sports Day for Year 7 and 8. Our Year 9's will also complete their end-of-year exams as they round out an incredible year of growth.

Year 9 Camp — Adventure, Urban Life & Our Nation’s Capital

The highlight for many will be the much-anticipated Year 9 Camp - a journey that combines adventure, urban exploration, and civic learning. This year’s group will experience the best of Sydney, Port Hacking, and Canberra.

The Sydney leg includes a live Bell Shakespeare performance following students’ study of The Tempest, a fast-paced city hunt, ferry and train rides, and a visit to Wayside Chapel in Kings Cross, where students will see the heart of community care in city life.

From there, they will head to Port Hacking for an overnight trek featuring a 10 kilometre hike and a 5 kilometre kayak, followed by some well-earned rest and a short shopping stop. The final stage of the journey takes our students to Canberra, where they will visit Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial, and other key national sites.

For our current Year 9 students, this will be their first opportunity to visit Canberra after their original Year 6 trip was cancelled due to COVID — making this experience even more meaningful.

Student Spotlight — Congratulations to Stanton Burtt!

A huge congratulations to Year 7 student Stanton Burtt, who took home the Great Mate Award at the Youth, Family and Community Connections (YFCC) 2025 Inspiring Youth Awards on Wednesday, October 8.

Stanton was recognised for his genuine kindness, leadership, and service — qualities that shine through in every part of his school and community life. A youth leader and member of a mental-health advisory board, Stanton is known for always being there for others.

“I just try to be nice to everyone that I meet, and if they have anything that they need help with, I’ll help them,” he said.

One story that stood out to the judges was when Stanton noticed a teammate didn’t have soccer boots — so he quietly gave him his own pair during training. “He was really in need, and he’s always been there for me as well,” Stanton shared.
