Extended Absences

Supporting Student Learning During Extended Absences

We understand that some students may need to be away from school for extended periods (family holiday, medical events, Falls Creek Academy). Where possible absences during the school term should be avoided. The Department of Education has provided updated guidance on how we can support their learning during these times.

For any period of absence, students will be marked as either Family Holiday or Parent Choice – School Approved. If the absence is extended, the student, family, and school will work together to develop an Absence Learning Plan. This plan will outline key learning tasks and provide relevant resources to support student learning.

While work completed during the absence cannot be formally assessed due to authentication limitations, the learning plan will align with in-class activities to ensure continuity. Students will also have access to the Compass, allowing them to view support materials and stay connected. A designated school contact will be available to assist families throughout the process.

We appreciate the support of parents and guardians in maintaining students’ engagement with their learning, even when they are unable to attend in person. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Future Makers

Year 9 students have now officially completed their Future Makers program. This experience strengthens their connections with each other and their pathway through school. A huge thank you to the staff who attended and supported the program, as well as the Outdoor School for delivering such a student-centred experience. Well done to all students!

Year 7 Camp

Next week, our Year 7 students will embark on their camp adventure—an important opportunity to build friendships and confidence as they settle into secondary school. While some may feel a little nervous, we are sure they will make the most of this experience.

Halogen Conference

A group of Year 11 and 12 students had the incredible opportunity to attend the Halogen Student Leadership Conference in Melbourne, thanks to the generous support of the Alpine Shire. We sincerely appreciate the Shire’s contribution and look forward to seeing how our students apply their learning back at school.
