Thank you to all the parents that voted in the school council election. In a close election, our parent reps for the new school council are Meredith Anderson, Emma Colson, Rachel Fallon and Claire Mackinlay. Congratulations to these parents and thanks to all our nominees for wanting to help support the school.
I’d like to thank Jason Frede for the last 2 years that he has been on School Council. In that time, he joined the finance sub-committee and provided advice and suggestions around various financial matters, which was greatly appreciated.
Our school council AGM will be in Week 8, on Wednesday 19th March from 6.00-6.15pm in Room 9, with the new school council holding their first meeting from 6.15pm onwards.
I had the privilege to attend the camp again on Monday to greet the students back from their journey. While there was some sunburn, tiredness and many stories about the number of wolf spiders, snakes and ants, I could also see a lot of excitement and pride in the fact that they had challenged themselves (in various ways) and made it through the experience. It is when we are pushed outside our comfort zone, have to rely on those around us, and get past those things that hold us back, that we truly make personal growth. The visible change in all the students was clear – more self-confidence, greater empathy and understanding of their peers and new friendships.
After dinner, the students heard about Tim Cope’s nearly 3.5 year journey from Mongolia to Hungary. While the journey the students had just returned from was smaller in magnitude, Tim was able to share things he had learnt on his journey that echoed with the students’ experiences. Thanks to all the staff, from the Outdoor School and Mount Beauty SC that assisted with this program, as it is truly a life changing experience for many of our students.
Reminder
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) for Years 7 and 9 students is starting next week, running from Wednesday 12th to Monday 24th March. NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The results of the tests provide information for students, parents, teachers and principals and can be used to improve student achievement.
NAPLAN tests are delivered in an online format.
All eligible students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN tests. Catch up tests will be available for individual students who are absent on test days up to and including Monday 24th March. NAPLAN participation assists the school to receive additional funding, if needed, to support all our students.
NAPLAN helps demonstrate your progress and growth in learning over time, so we ask is for all students to give each test a go and try their best!
