Middle School House Captains

Introducing our Middle School House Captains
Student voice is key at GSSC and we pride ourselves on the many opportunities for students to have their say and build their leadership capacity.
This included the introduction of Middle School House Captains in 2024 to ensure we were providing voice and agency for our younger students in Years 7 to 9. This year we have again appointed Middle School House Captains who will work alongside our Year 12 College and House Captains, and our specialist leaders from across all year levels. This includes our First Nations and Multicultural leaders, Environmental, Values and Music Leaders.
Our Middle School Leaders were presented with their badges on Thursday at a meeting held with Executive Principal Barbara O’Brien, Biyala Neighbourhood Principal Dougie Souter, Dharnya Neighbourhood Principal, Kirsten Tozer and Bayuna Neighbourhood Principal, Daisy Utber. Neighbourhood Sub-school leaders were also in attendance, with these staff the key people who will support out students in their leadership journey.
In their roles, our Middle School Leaders will take on a variety of responsibilities including planning and leading assemblies, representing the college at school and community events, advocating for students and sharing their voice and ideas and taking the charge on implementing various school improvement initiatives.
We congratulate these students for taking a leap of faith to nominate for these positions and undergoing the selection process, which was quite a task for our Executive Principal, Neighbourhood Principals and Sub-school Leaders who had a high calibre of students to select from – a testament to the wonderfully talented and diverse mix of young people we have at GSSC.
