Library News

Hello Chatswood Community,

A quick update this week! Technology lessons in the Make-a-Space have been progressing nicely this term. As you may have seen in your stage newsletter, Stage 2 and Stage 3 are currently working on space travel and our solar system. To complement this, Mr. Matthews has been leading lessons that explore various technologies used in space, such as:

  • Radio transmissions between Earth and space
  • Programming used to send instructions to satellites, the Mars Rover, and deep space probes
  • Binary coding and how computers and machines communicate

Students will also be exploring 3D design using a program called TinkerCad, where they will design rocket ships and space probes. These creations will be printed using our new FlashForge Adventurer 3D printers, borrowed from T4L, the department's technology library.

Some of the software the students will be using and some print examples from the new Flash Forge printers from T4L.

The students have been incredibly excited about these new additions to the library. Mr. Matthews has been performing test prints in preparation for the printers’ ongoing use, and whenever students see the machine in action, they gather around, mesmerized by the 3D printing process. They ask curious questions like, "How does it print this?" or "When do we get to have a go?" It’s fantastic to see their enthusiasm for the technology lessons Mr. Matthews has put together!

Thank you for your support, and we look forward to sharing more exciting learning experiences with you soon.

Wishing you a wonderful week!
