A group of talented Stage 5 Visual Arts students recently stepped into the dynamic world of collage at the Wollongong Art Gallery.
Their visit to the ‘Shape Shifters’ exhibition was an eye-opening journey through Australia’s rich collage history, featuring stunning works by renowned artists such as Rosalie Gascoigne, Brett Whiteley, and Robert Klippel.
Collage is more than just cutting and pasting—it’s a powerful tool for storytelling, composition, and even social and political commentary. As students explored the exhibition, they uncovered the deeper meanings behind each artwork, analysing how artists use layering, texture, and juxtaposition to convey their messages.
The highlight of the day? A hands-on collage-making workshop, where students had the chance to channel their creativity and craft their own unique masterpieces. Inspired by the artists they studied, they experimented with materials, shapes, and ideas, bringing their artistic visions to life.
This experience not only broadened their understanding of collage as an art form but also sparked fresh inspiration for their own creative journeys. Who knows? We may have some future ‘Shape Shifters’ in the making! 🎨✂️
Our Preliminary Textiles and Design students have kicked off the year with an impressive first project!
They were challenged to explore a variety of fabrics and surface design techniques to create their own functional project bags—each one a unique reflection of their creativity and understanding of design principles.
The results? Absolutely stunning!
These bags not only showcase their growing skills but also highlight their individuality and artistic vision. We can't wait to see what they create next!
Year 7 students have been knotting their way into the world of Macramé as part of their new Mandatory Tech unit on Weaving—and the results have been nothing short of impressive!
Macramé is a unique textile art that relies solely on knots to create intricate and decorative designs. Unlike traditional weaving methods that require looms or tools, macramé is all about handcrafted precision, using just rope and skillful technique.
Through this hands-on experience, students are learning patience, creativity, and problem-solving while producing stunning woven pieces. This exciting unit is just the beginning of Stage 4’s exploration into the world of weaving and textiles—who knows what creative masterpieces they’ll produce next? Stay tuned! 🎨✨
