Year Three - Spotlight on Learning

Ephesus Community

Dear Families,

We have had a wonderful week with NAPLAN having done our Reading, Writing and Language Conventions. On Monday we will complete the Mathematics component for NAPLAN.

We have taken some time to gather as a community to practice the songs we were going to use. Next week we need to make some adjustments to Mass, we will confirm these details with you as soon as possible.

Next week we are learning about...

Religious Education Focus

During Lent, students have explored how pilgrimage, service, and preparation shape their faith journey. They have reflected on being a light for others, inspired by St. Joseph’s faithfulness.

Through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, students are deepening their connection to God and the Jubilee Year theme of renewal. By making personal Lenten commitments, they are discovering how their actions can bring positive change to themselves and others. Families are encouraged to support these commitments at home.

English Focus

Next week, students will begin reading Off We Go Around Australia by Roland Harvey, a beautifully illustrated book that takes readers on an adventure across the country. This text will inspire discussions about different landscapes and landmarks, supporting our focus on explanatory writing.

In writing, students are learning to structure explanations with clear introductions, detailed body paragraphs, and strong conclusions. They are using factual information, tier 3 vocabulary, and language features like connectives and expanded noun groups to explain how things work or why they happen. These skills help develop their ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently.

Mathematics Focus

Next week, students will investigate number patterns by exploring the multiples of 3, 4, 5, and 10. Through hands-on activities, they will identify patterns in these sequences and deepen their understanding of multiplication.

By recognizing these patterns, students will strengthen their number sense and develop strategies to solve problems efficiently. This foundational skill supports their confidence in multiplication and prepares them for more advanced mathematical concepts.

Auslan Focus

Next week, students will learn about the key features of sign language, including handshape, location, and movement. They will explore how changing any of these elements can alter the meaning of a sign.

Through activities such as identifying and copying signs like Excuse me, Can I have a drink?, and Lord hear our prayer, Amen, students will develop their understanding of clear and accurate communication using sign language.
