Year Two - Spotlight on Learning
Damascus Community
Dear Families,
We hope everyone had a restful extra long weekend. It was the perfect time for a mid-term reset and students have come back ready and eager to learn. Students have been thoroughly enjoying learning about their family history and sharing stories of things that make their families special. We are learning a lot about each other!
A goal across the school this year is for students to be comfortable with other teachers, not just their own classroom teacher. This week we did a teacher swap for one of our Integrated lesson where students were taught and learnt about another teacher from our community.
Religious Education: We will be learning about stories of Jesus' life and how we can relate these to our own lives.
Mathematics: We will complete our unit on addition and subtraction. We will use the strategies such as using tens frames, open and closed number lines, bridging to ten and the part-part whole method, to complete worded problems. We also begin our unit on time and start with looking at o'clock and half-past times.
English: We will be looking at the book 'Wilam-A Burrung Story' where students will unpack key vocabulary within the text. Students will undertake activities related to the story and look at different sentence types: statements, commands, questions and exclamations. Our spelling focus is the Silent Final E Job 4 where e goes at the end of words with 'l' as every syllable needs a vowel.
Auslan: This week we are learning that in Auslan each sign has a specific handshape, location and movement and therefore if you change any one of these features you can change what the sign means.
Social/Emotional Learning & RRRR: We are focusing on emotional literacy where we recognise and manage our different emotions.

If you are able to bring it in or share a picture or video of a family artefact that would be greatly appreciated. We will be doing this in Week 9.
