News from Foundation

WOW! What a fantastic first term the Foundation students have had! We cannot believe that it is nearly the end of Term 1! Seeing their transition to school has been amazing, and we are so proud of everything they have achieved already!

Literacy

Writing

The Foundation students have been learning how to write a sentence using the letters they have already learned. When they write sentences, the Foundation students have been practicing spacing out their words and writing on the lines!

Handwriting

The Foundation students have been learning lots of new letters and practicing writing them. Look at how neat their writing is!

Reading

The Foundation students were excited to use their iPads this week to read some decodable texts! They loved clicking on the words and sounding them out!

Maths

Maths Games

The Foundation students have been loving playing Maths games in Maths! Here is a game called 'I have, who has'. Students get a card and place the card in the middle, saying, for example, "I have 6, who has 19?" The person then puts 19 on top and asks who has the following number!

Number Fun

In Foundation, the students learn about numbers 1-10. Here are some photos of the number posters they made! They needed to use that number and put stickers, stamps, gems, etc., to match it on their posters!

Numeral and Picture Matching

This week, the Foundations have been focusing on a skill called 'Subertising'. This is when you look at a collection of objects and know how many there are, without counting them! Here is an activity that we did to practice this skill!

Mass

The Foundation students attended their first ever Mass at St Joes last week and met Father Michael!
