Year 11 English and EAL Workshops

Year 11 English and EAL students recently participated in two engaging theatre workshops run by Eagle’s Nest Theatre Company, enhancing their understanding of the texts they are currently studying.

The Year 11 English students focused on Medea by Euripides, watching key scenes brought to life by experienced performers. The workshop encouraged them to analyse the play’s dramatic techniques, character motivations, and powerful themes, deepening their appreciation of this classic tragedy.

Year 11 EAL students attended a workshop on No Sugar by Jack Davis, where they observed and discussed pivotal scenes from the play. Through this experience, they explored the historical and cultural context of the text, gaining a stronger understanding of its themes of injustice, resilience, and identity in Australian society.

Both workshops provided an invaluable opportunity for students to see their texts in action, offering fresh perspectives to support their studies.

Year 11 EAL - "No Sugar"

The Year 11 EAL students had a fantastic time at the Melbourne Museum visiting the various exhibits and learning more about Indigenous culture and stories. This trip really cemented their knowledge and provided greater contextual knowledge of the text “No Sugar”  that they are currently studying. For many of these EAL students, it was also their first visit and they thoroughly enjoyed the various experiences.

To further consolidate the knowledge of the play “No Sugar”, the Year 11 EAL students were involved in an incursion by Eagle’s Nest on the 20th of February.

The students were very involved in this play by having roles assigned to them and having the amazing opportunity to try their hands at acting out the play under the tutelage of Sharalee and James. Sheralee’s heartfelt stories of her Indigenous background and her revelations helped many of the students to gain fresh perspectives of the play and gave everyone an opportunity to participate actively throughout the two hours!

Year 12 Legal Studies Excursion

The Year 12 Legal Studies classes visited the Melbourne County Court and the Supreme Court on an excursion to the city. Students were able to observe real criminal trials and gain a deeper understanding of key knowledge being explored in Unit 3 AOS 1.

Students also visited the Old Melbourne Gaol where they were able to participate in a mock trial for a culpable driving causing death case. Students took on roles of the judge, the accused, witnesses, barristers and hecklers. At the end of the trial students decided on an appropriate sanction for the ‘accused’.

The Year 12 Legal teachers were extremely impressed by students' engagement throughout the excursion and are excited to see where their legal career journeys lead them next.
