Curriculum News

English
This term, students will explore the English curriculum through a novel study. The students will be using the OCHRE Program to help them develop their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills altogether.
Reading and Viewing
The novel Charlotte’s Web invites students into a heartwarming story about friendship, kindness, and the natural world. Through this text, students will explore important themes like loyalty, courage, and caring for others. They will practice comprehension skills to better understand the characters, events, and messages in the story. Related activities will help students connect the story to their own experiences and the wider world.
Writing
This term, writing will focus on creating Narratives inspired by Charlotte’s Web. Students will learn how to write clear sentences and summaries about the story. They will also develop their skills in organizing ideas and using language features that suit different types of writing. Vocabulary building will continue, including strategies to spell more challenging words using prefixes and suffixes.
Speaking and Listening
In Speaking and Listening, students will work on speaking confidently and clearly about different topics, including themes from Charlotte’s Web. They will practice sharing their ideas, listening carefully to others, and giving and receiving helpful feedback. These skills will be used during class discussions and presentations.
Mathematics
Year 3
In Mathematics this term, students will be developing their understanding of number, measurement, statistics and space. They will explore how quantities can be combined and separated, as well as how they can be shared and grouped into equal parts. Students will learn to represent and interpret data in a variety of ways to support deeper understanding. They will investigate the position and movement of 2D objects and record these changes accurately. In probability, students will begin to classify events according to how likely they are to occur. Additionally, they will build skills in measuring and comparing the attributes of objects using formal metric units.
Year 4
This term in Mathematics, students are developing their understanding of how data can be represented in different ways to help make sense of information. They are exploring the properties of 2D shapes and 3D objects through measurement and comparison. Students are also being introduced to probability by classifying events based on how likely they are to occur. In addition, they are learning how to share and group quantities into equal parts and are using formal metric units to measure and describe the attributes of various objects. Students will continue to build their automatic recall of mental strategies in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Wellbeing - Stress Management
The Wellbeing focus for this term is Stress Management. This unit will support students to recognise signs of stress and learn practical strategies to manage their emotions in healthy ways. Through guided activities and discussions, students will explore how to stay calm, make positive choices, and seek help when needed. Learning how to manage stress builds resilience and confidence, and helps students form stronger, more respectful relationships with others. Children will participate in Inform and Empower sessions to further support their learning of Stress Management.
Inquiry - 'May the Force be with You'
This term our host area for Inquiry is Physical Science. Our big question is ‘Why is it so?’ Students will investigate how heat can be produced in many ways and can move from one object to another; a change in the temperature of an object is related to the gain or loss of heat by the object. Students will learn that forces can be exerted by one object on another through direct contact or from a distance.
Religion
This term, our Religious Education focus is on ‘Church and Community’. As part of the preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, students will explore the importance of forgiveness and making things right personally, in our community, and across our nation. They will learn and reflect on how our choices impact our relationships with others. Through scripture stories and class discussions, students will deepen their understanding of God’s loving forgiveness. They will also learn about Mary, Mother of God, and explore the season of Advent, including the traditions and meaning of Christmas.
