Keeping our students safe Child safety / visitors and volunteering at DCC

Dear Parents/ Carers,

At DCC, we are committed to providing an environment where students are safe and feel safe.

Part of this commitment involves ensuring all visitors to the College hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and have been inducted prior to entering the school grounds.

This process can easily be completed by going to:

Doherty's Creek P-9 College Contractor and Volunteer OHS Induction Handbooks and Checklists

How do you know if you need to complete this checklist?

You will need to undergo this induction and have a valid WWCC card if you are:

  • a parent helper assisting within a classroom
  • a parent helper assisting with excursions, swimming, camps, or events (regardless of whether your child is participating in the event)
  • volunteering for a school event (eg. helping at the father day stall, colour run)
  • participating in a Community Hub program / playgroup.

To complete the induction process:

  • click on the following link Doherty's Creek P-9 College Contractor and Volunteer OHS Induction Handbooks and Checklists
  • Read the following documentation & policies (accessed via the above link):
  • Volunteer OHS induction PowerPoint
  • Volunteers policy
  • Child safe code of conduct
  • Volunteer confidentiality agreement
  • Child safe policy
  • Child safety responding and reporting obligations policy and procedures
  • confirm that you have read each document by answering the questions in the google form
  • enter your name, address, email, contact phone number & WWCC card details into the google form
  • upload a copy of your valid WWCC card (in either PDF or jpg)
  • follow instructions to submit form once all steps are completed.

DCC love having parents / grandparents / carers volunteer at our school and encourage you to register even if you are not 100% sure that you will have the time to volunteer in the immediate future. This will ensure that you are all set to go when you do have an opportunity to help out.

Volunteers are required to be re-inducted every 12 months (as per Department of Education regulations). Each June/July, we will contact those on our volunteer register to invite you to register as a volunteer again for the next 12 months.

Please note that you will still be required to carry your valid WWCC card and present this to reception when signing in to volunteer.

We acknowledge that these extra checks can sometimes mean that it can get quite busy at reception and thank you for your understanding and patience whilst our Admin team ensure that visitors have the appropriate checks completed.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any queries.

Cheers,

Sam McDonald
