A message from Tami -Jo

We have had such a wonderful start to the term. The students have come back from the holidays enthusiastically and many have grown taller, particularly the Preps- they look so much bigger now. There is always such a lot going on; I hope you can join in some of the events throughout the term. It has been great to see the weather improving and fingers crossed that this continues.
School review
We had our first day of school review this week and it was a day of celebration. The review team consists of the independent reviewer, 2 principals from other schools who work as challenge partners, our Schol Council president and the PCO team. The improvement in data over the past few years has been steady and consistent and is now strong. The review team celebrated the work of our teachers. Our results in Reading, Writing and Numeracy are above the State in all areas (Year 3,5,7,9) except one. The observations in classrooms show growth and improvement in teaching and learning, wellbeing and behaviour. We are really looking forward to the review team continuing their fieldwork for 2 days during November to really unpack what our next stages of improvement should focus on. These days will consist of lesson and planning observations and meetings with teachers, students and parents in order to get a ‘real’ sense of where we are at as a school and where to next.
Year 5 Camp
The Year 5 students started the term at Anglesea Discovery Camp. Here students challenged themselves on the Vertical Climb and Giant Swing, cooked damper over a campfire, canoed in the estuary, participated in team building beach activities and initiative games, went for a night walk and toasted marshmallows and completed our last night with trivia. Our school program for those who remained at school participated in the Amazing Race, created crafts, team building activities and sports.
Year 1 Stay Late
We have our Year 1 stay late coming up on Thursday October 30th and Thursday November 6th. The students are so excited already.
Students in Trafic
We love seeing our families walking to school each day and encourage everyone to make safety the top priority on the journey. Please use designated crossings and footpaths whenever possible, and take a moment to remind children about looking both ways and waiting for signals before crossing. Drivers may not always see children who cross unexpectedly, so using crossings helps keep everyone safe. Let’s all be patient and kind to one another-working together makes our school community a safer and happier place for everyone!
Contingency Plans for Pick Up
It’s important to have a family plan in place for unexpected situations, such as when someone is late for pick-up or not home when your child arrives. Talk with your children ahead of time about what to do and who to contact if this happens. Make sure they know safe places to wait, trusted adults they can turn to, and how to reach you or another family member. Having these plans discussed in advance helps children feel more confident and keeps them safe in any situation.
Teacher's Day
Teacher’s Day is being celebrated on Friday October 31st. We have amazing teachers here at DCC. Please take the time to send a message, write a card or make a gift with your child for the people who work with them everyday. It is important to take the time to say thank you and to model that for our young people as well.
This term is one of consolidation and assessment. The teachers will be preparing for the writing of reports and will be completing various assessments to inform their judgements. Teachers will also be configuring classes for next year and preparing the students for the changes when they occur. We look forward to the term ahead. Take care and we look forward to seeing you at various events through the term.
