October is Mental Health month! Seymour College has been very lucky to be one of the schools during October to be visited by Headspace. Headspace is a support service for young people who provide tailored and holistic mental health support to young people aged 12 – 24.

Part of Headspace’s visit to Seymour College on 24th October – 26th October will include Workshops with students in Grade 6 – Year 10, these include:

Grade 6 Workshop with a focus on – ‘Transition – Primary to Secondary’

Year 7 and 8 students Workshops with a focus on ‘Talking about Mental Health, managing stress and ways to support ourselves’

Year 9 and 10 students Workshops with a focus on ‘Looking out for your friends; notice, ask and connect’

We are also very lucky that as part of the three days of workshops, is a Parent/Carer session on Wednesday evening 25th October 6pm – 7.30pm in the College Library  – see attached flier.

The aim of this session is to support parents/carers:

  • understanding mental health and wellbeing in adolescence
  • how to have a conversation with young people about their mental health
  • strategies for parents and carers on how to support their young person
  • where you and your young person can go for help.

The Parent/carer session is open to the Seymour College community and requires families to RSVP to ensure we have enough parents attending for the session to occur.

Important to note, that the Parent/Carer session is not suitable for children or young people to attend.

Please contact Kirsty Roberts from the Wellbeing Team for further information or to RSVP to the Parent/Carer session – 57711300
