String Examinations

Best wishes to the 14 String students across both Primary and Secondary who are sitting their examinations on Friday 20 October. We are most grateful to our Music Specialist Tutors and Accompanists for the incredible work they do in preparing our young musicians with great precision!

Student Achievements

Congratulations to Matilda Woodhead (Year 8) who was awarded an A (Honours) in her recent Piano Grade 3 exam! Keep shining, Matilda!

Secondary Music Dinner

Music has a remarkable ability to bring people together and create lasting memories. This was evident on Friday night, when our musicians and their families joined together to celebrate the year so far and the wonderful memories shared together. Our red-carpet themed evening included heartfelt speeches, uplifting videos, delicious food and lots of dancing! The laughter, animated conversations and interactions between year levels was a testament to the friendships and good times shared by our musicians in 2023.

Please enjoy some photos from the night in the Photo Gallery section of this edition!

Drama

Our Year 6, 7 and 8 Drama students were engaged with a performance of ‘The Stones’ by Shock Therapy Productions. Based on a true story, ‘The Stones’ was about risk taking behaviour and the pain of guilt when things go too far. The play placed the audience in the position of a jury where they considered whether the boys were responsible for their actions, or too young to know what they were doing. The energetic performance was highly physical, emotive and effectively utilised multiple role-playing.  The students had the opportunity to engage in a debrief and discussion with the actors, who discussed the techniques they employ to deliver a powerful drama.

The Year 8 and 9 Drama students also participated in a masterclass with the actors – Sam Foster and Hayden Jones – who workshopped exercises based on the physical development of characters and scenarios. This was a fantastic opportunity for students to refine their acting skills through movement and focus!

Youth Drama Celebration - Government House

Mr Walker was extremely proud to represent Clayfield College at the reception in support of ‘Queensland Theatre’s Youth Drama Education Program. Clayfield College was recognised for our creative contribution to the Scene Project 2023, along with dramatist Brad Haseman (formerly of QUT – Professor in Drama), and Drama Teacher, Lydia PattersonDr Jeannette Young’s address highlighted the significance of Drama and the Arts in education.
