Term 4, Week 2
Footy Colours Day:
At the end of last term students and staff enjoyed participating in Footy Colours Day and the staff vs. Grade 6's match to see who would take out the coveted 'Stevo Cup'. The weather was perfect for the occasion and there were lots of spectacular tackles on the favourite station - the tackling bags!
Mathematics - Money and Arrays
We concluded last term with the concept money and students had a go at creating their own shop in small groups, where they had the chance to buy and sell items.
We have begun this term with exploring the concept of arrays, beginning the journey towards more formal multiplication skills. We discussed the idea of arrays having rows and columns, and then made the connection to repeated addition. Students looked around the classroom and school yard to find real life examples of arrays and recorded them on grid paper.
Mathematics: Our Mathematics sessions will continue to build on skills which support the development of the concepts of Multiplication and also division. We will demonstrate the link between multiplying and dividing, and allow students the time to explore this idea.
English: During reading sessions in week 3 and 4 students will be practising their summarising skills. In week 3 our focus words will be shop and like. Over the past couple of weeks we have practised adding the suffixes 'ing' and 'ed' and we will continue to look at these. In Week 4 we will beginning looking at the concept of homophones and will particularly focus on two, too and to.
As part of Writing lessons, students will be refining their recount writing skills, whilst also working on their use of punctuation, Wow words, interesting openers and beginning to use more connectives, other than just 'and'.
Topic: Students have begun our topic for this term called 'Through the Generations'. This week your child/ren should have brought home with them a sheet explaining a 'Class Museum' activity, which will take place in week 4. If you could please support your child with this task we would be very appreciative. If you have any questions please get in touch with your child/ren's teacher.
