Learning Tasks - Q&A

What are Learning Tasks?

Learning Tasks are key components of the formal reporting package at SGPS. Each task provides information about your child's performance in a core assessment or learning activity that is undertaken in the classroom.

How many Learning Tasks are provided?

Eight per semester: two Reading, two Writing, two Mathematics and two Specialist.

What's the difference between Learning Tasks and the Semester Report?

Learning Tasks are a snapshot of your child's progress at a particular point in time. Semester Reports capture the overall progress of your child at the end of each semester, including the teacher's judgment about your child's progress against the Victorian Curriculum in each learning area.

How often are Learning Tasks released?

Every 3-4 weeks. A newsfeed will alert families when Learning Tasks are visible in Compass. What should I see when my child's Learning Task is released?

Parents should see:

1. a generic overview/explanation of the task

2. commentary from the teacher on your child's performance on the task

3. an overall grading statement i.e. 'At Expected', 'Below Expected' or 'Above Expected'

4. a work sample or 'artifact'. This visual sample varies depending on the nature of the Learning Task.

Excursions Galore This Week!

I have been lucky to attend two excursions this week. On Tuesday, I went with the Preps to see Pevan and Sarah in concert. Their celebrity status of Pevan and Sarah with the 300 Preps in attendance was incredible! They had the whole Capital Theater dancing and singing from start to finish.

On Wednesday I accompanied a group of students who took part in an Indigenous dance workshop with the Bangarra Dance Company. Students were taught an Indigenous dance routine by professional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performers. Bangarra Dance are one of Australia’s leading performing arts companies. What an awesome opportunity for our students.
