Writing: During our Writing sessions, our students have been focusing on Recounts. We have been exploring ways to make recounts more engaging for the reading through a range of strategies. We will continue to work on this area over the next two weeks.

Maths: In Mathematics, we are beginning the term by working on consolidating and mastering the written processes to solve problems involving the four operations. Our Applied Maths focus is Geometric Reasoning. This involves being able to estimate, measure and compare angles using degrees and constructing angles using a protractor. Students are also investigating the sum of angles at a point on a line and vertically opposite angles. They will use this understanding to find unknown angles.

Reading: During the first four weeks of Reading, we are exploring choices authors use to engage their audience when writing a picture story book. These will include using elements of suspense, comedy, tragedy and to inform.

Topic and STEAM: Students were introduced to our Term 4 topic of 'Data and Decisions'. During this unit, students will consider the difference between needs and wants, the types of resources that we have, and how we use them, and the nature and meaning of work. They will be engaged in economics and business as they work in groups to develop a business plan that they will present to younger students in our school. During Steam, students have been working in small groups to develop an activity that they will be running as part Be Awesome Day.
