From the  Principal

Karen Roberts

Hello to our wonderful CPS community and welcome back to Term 4. I hope both you and your children are healthy and happy and that the holidays were a chance to connect with your child(ren) and make memories that will last a lifetime.

2023 Staffing and Grade Structures

For Term 4, I have the goal of managing our school’s workforce plan. Thank you to all our families that completed the 2023 intentions on Compass. Please advise the office if there will be any changes to your existing enrolment; if you are moving or planning an extended holiday, let us know as soon as possible.

Another focus is ensuring our teachers are preparing the children to handle the transition from their 2023 grade to the new 2024 grade. Another year will quickly clock over and our children will take another step towards adulthood - and that is what we are all preparing them to handle.

Sun Smart Reminder

A reminder that it is so important for our students to be wearing their hats in the yard and wearing SPF 30 sunscreen during the hotter months. Please remember to name all school hats with a permanent marker as we find many unnamed hats in our school and have difficulty returning them to their owners.

World Teachers Day

Last Thursday 5th October we celebrated World Teachers Day and were treated to a delicious morning tea from the PFA. Thank you to all the families who contributed, we were very grateful for this special treat.

World Teachers’ Day is a chance to recognise and celebrate the teachers who are making, or have made, an impact in our lives. Thank you to all those students and parents who said a  special "thank you" to their teachers on last Thursday.

Year 5 Camp

Last week, our year 5 students participated in their camp to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat. The 3 day camp is a fantastic opportunity for the Year 5 children to learn about the Gold Rush, build resilience, confidence and teamwork skills, as well as experience many wonderful learning experiences at Sovereign Hill, highlights being gold panning, a mine tour and light show! A very big shout out to Ms Macklin for organising the camp and to Mrs Miller, Mr Suryadi, Mrs Kennedy, Mrs Cogan, Mrs Batten, and Mrs Bolger for attending camp. We know many rich experiences and happy memories were made with this group of students.

Holiday Work Around the School

You will have observed a number of changes to our school that occurred during the holidays. This is to ensure we are providing our staff and students with the facilities and an environment that is conducive to productivity and learning.

  • Foreground Architecture have commenced an extensive ramps project across the school including the construction of safety rails outside the BER opposite the playground to ensure we are able to cater for all students, especially when accessing our facilities.
  • High risk tree works have been undertaken and there has been a ‘clean up’ of our front and side gardens and spaces. Will be liaising with specialists to determine a plan for the area.
  • Dry wall plastering has been undertaken throughout the school. We have replaced all water damaged ceiling battens; ceilings have been painted in the grade 3 portable, the administrative area has been repainted including the stairwell and ceilings to both level 1 and 2 landings outside the ICT and Japanese rooms. It looks so fresh!
  • Hayden – our ‘amazing’ maintenance person has repaired and replaced stairs to the portables, painted the landings, affixed safety strips and replaced entrance coverings.

We are so very fortunate to have him on site two days a week as he can address any issues with haste and ensure the ongoing maintenance of our great school.

Have a great week everyone.
