Prep Team News

with Caitlin, Hayley & Andrea

Hello Prep families,

We cannot believe it is the end of Term Three! What a fun filled and busy term we have had. Our Preps have shown such growth this term both academically and socially. It has been wonderful to celebrate their achievements by gathering together for a meal at our Prep Breakfast. Thank you to our fabulous Willy families for all your support at home, in our classrooms and by ensuring your children are prepared and ready to learn when they arrive at school. We know there are many tired Preps who are ready to enjoy a holiday break!

Father’s Day Afternoon Tea

Thank you to our special visitors who joined us in our classrooms last Friday to celebrate Father’s Day. The Preps prepared a special song, card and treat for their guests. It was a great opportunity for students to complete an activity with a special person, and show some of the great work we have been doing in our classrooms. There were many happy, smiling children on Friday afternoon!

Prep Breakfast

On Wednesday, students took part in the Prep Breakfast. Students arrived at school in their pyjamas and were very excited to eat breakfast at school with their classmates. The Preps demonstrated their independence by helping to prepare their breakfast, along with washing their dishes at the end of the meal and changing into their school clothes. What a great way to end the term!

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 9 - 10

Reading - Students will explore the features of narrative texts including the characters, setting, problem and solution in stories. As part of our Little Learner’s program, students are now beginning to learn other common sounds including digraphs and trigraphs. Our current focus is the /th/ and /ng/ sounds.

Writing - Students are continuing to learn to correctly form letters and use their sound knowledge to write sentences. We are reading and discussing narrative texts and writing written responses about these. Students are also beginning to have a go at creating their own narratives.

Numeracy - Students are learning about measurement including length, capacity and mass. This week we have been exploring mass and capacity including hefting items in our classroom to compare and order objects by mass.

Inquiry - This term, our inquiry topic is What’s my story? What’s your story? Our big topics will include: stories can be communicated in different ways, stories from the past can show us how things have changed over time and different cultures share stories in different ways.

We hope all of our families have a safe and enjoyable holiday break. See you in Term Four!

Warm regards,

The Prep Team–Caitlin Sullivan (Prep S), Hayley Thibou (Prep T) & Andrea Duxson (Prep D)
