Visual Arts

Wominjenka, and greetings from the Art Room.

It is hard to believe that we are coming to the end of term. As such we have been busy trying to make sure everyone has completed their Crazy Camel artwork so that we can send them off to Crazy Camel to be ready for our next school fundraiser.

Tomorrow, 15th September is (believe it or not) International Dot Day. This is a day to celebrate creativity, courage, collaboration and a day to express self-expression. So we have been reading, The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, and the kids have been experimenting with their dots. The results have been quite impressive.

At last, some of the Grade Five & Six’s Lyrebird pictures are hanging outside the office. I think they look pretty good, even if I do say so myself!

Happy holidays everyone. I don’t know about you, but I am exhausted and ready for a break. I hope you all get to see some great art over the next two weeks.

Stay happy and keep creating art!

Physical Education

Fortnightly Curriculum Focus in Physical Education – Term 3 Week 10

Prep: Practice skills, including social skills, in simple game situations.

Year 1 & 2: Perform fundamental movement skills involving controlling objects with equipment and different parts of the body.

Year 3 & 4: Demonstrate turn-taking and sharing equipment when participating in minor games.

Year 5/6: Understand the contribution of different roles and responsibilities in physical activities that promote enjoyment, safety and positive outcomes for participants.

Sport

As part of the Footy Day celebrations tomorrow, some of our Grade 3 and Grade 4 students will participate in a footy and netball tournament. Teams will be coached by some excellent Grade 5/6 leaders who volunteered their time to coach the Hanmer Hornets, Cole Crocodiles, Electra Power and Cecil Cobras. All the teams will battle it out in a tremendous show of skill, sportsmanship and comradery. Although the brand of footy that will be played will not involve full contact or tackling, student are encouraged to wear mouthguards if they have one. The weather looks like it will be beautiful again so footy boots will not be necessary.

On Thursday September 7th, both our Boys/Mixed and Girls hockey team headed off to Footscray hockey club to compete in the State Hockey Finals. Both teams competed against 8 other schools on the day and did extremely well. It was an amazing achievement for both teams to progress so far being the first year that Willy Primary has participated in hockey. Well done to both teams, and a huge congratulations to the girls team who finished as State Runners Up! Amazing!

Warm Regards,

Paddy Gallivan (PE)
