Year 5/6 Team News

with Laura, Christina, Bianca R, Molly, Bianca I, Steven & Will

Hello Year 5/6 families,

Literacy

Over the past two weeks, our students have delved deep into the fascinating world of character motivations and perspectives in their reading. In the realm of writing, our focus has centred on honing essential essay-writing skills. Students have worked diligently on crafting engaging introductions, developing strong body paragraphs, perfecting topic sentences, and crafting satisfying conclusions. These skills will undoubtedly serve as valuable tools for our Grade 6s heading into Year 7.

Maths

Grade 5 and 6 students have been on an exciting journey into the world of angles. They've explored a range of concepts, from identifying and measuring angles to understanding their properties and relationships. Our budding mathematicians have also delved into angles formed by parallel lines and transversals, as well as the use of protractors for accurate angle measurement.

Inquiry

Our Grade 5 and 6 students have been embarking on an electrifying adventure as they craft their very own board games with integrated electrical circuits. In collaborative groups, they've been harnessing their creative and technical skills, referencing assessment criteria to ensure their designs are not only innovative but also meet specific objectives. This hands-on project is sparking curiosity and fostering a deep understanding of both design principles and circuitry.

Year 6 Jumpers 2024

Grade 6 2024 online store for t-shirts and jumpers will be opening in the first week of Term 4. Be sure to place your orders. Samples for sizing will be available for your child to try on in 5/6I (Bianca I. and Puhie’s classroom)

Camp

We extend our hearty congratulations to our Grade 5 and 6 students for their fantastic participation in the recent Camp Toolangi adventure two weeks ago. The memories made while abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing, and conquering the high ropes course will undoubtedly last a lifetime. We couldn't have achieved this without our dedicated parent volunteers and the incredible efforts of our Camp Coordinator, Melati Cordell. Kudos to all for fostering teamwork, resilience, and unforgettable moments! Below are some student reflections about our time at Camp Toolangi.

My Camp Reflection

By Zoe L and Arden W

Camp, a place to relax, have fun and hang out with your friends.

A place to learn new skills.

A place to explore.

Camp Toolangi, 2023 was so much fun. The food was very high quality and delicious. The activities were out of the ordinary, including abseiling, ziplines and even a high ropes course.

And I can't even tell you how good the obstacle course was, you got to run, jump and climb. You got to crawl under a tarp, get in the mud and come out  so dirty.

The camp owners and staff would be the nicest and funniest people. They tell you jokes about the past, the present and their hopeful future. They would also always put a smile on your face.

Suzie and Deb were their amazing cooks. They made food that would melt in our mouths the second it would touch our tongues. Suzie and Deb didn’t get paid enough for making our delicious food.

“All I want is for you guys to be polite, say please and thank you, smile and appreciate our hard work.” - Suzie and Deb

I would do anything in my power to go back to Camp Toolangi.

Camp Toolangi was a blast.

Warm regards,

The Grade 5/6 Team - Laura Bartholomeusz (5/6B), Christina Crosland (5/6C), Bianca Russo & Molly Hedditch (5/6H), Bianca Italiano & Steven Puhar (5/6I), Melati Cordell (5/6M) & Will Rogers (5/6R)
