Jump Rope - 2023

For the second half of the term, all students have been building upon their fundamental movement skills in skipping. The younger years are focusing on skipping games, building their gross motor skills and improving their stamina and perseverance. For most of the students, this is their second year of fine-tuning their jump rope skills and improving their coordination and endurance. If they have a rope at home, it would be wonderful for them to continue what we are covering in class. Many students have asked for the below links to the videos that we use in lessons to continue at home.

Skipping is a great cardio, aerobic exercise that is cheap and can occur almost anywhere. It is a great way to improve their fitness and increase concentration, coordination, flexibility and it can improve mental health. All family members can join in the fun. Your child would love to teach you some of what they have learnt!

Remind your child to do a dynamic warm-up or stretch prior to beginning a workout like in the link below:

Once the single bounce has been mastered the below links help students learn new skills.

This is the set of skills the Years 1 & 2s have been working on to earn their Ninja Belts.

The Years 3-6 have been working their way through the skills in the link below:

Learning The Ropes has a lot of videos for students, and parents, to follow. From ‘what’s next’ series to professional routines to inspire anyone to attempt new skills. Have a look through multiple, short videos in the below link:

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the upper primary students will not be performing their paired work that was mentioned in the term overview.

I hope they continue to enjoy skipping.
