A message from Tami -Jo

It has been wonderful to see how well students have settled into the school year. Class routines are now well established and students are becoming increasingly confident with expectations, learning tasks and daily schedules. It has been pleasing to see students engaging positively in their learning, building relationships with their peers and teachers, and contributing to a calm and productive classroom environment.
Swimming
Our 3-6 swimming team who competed at the District Swimming Competition and came home champions for the second year running. Amazing work by the students and the staff involved.
Captains at Principal’s Forum
Thank you to the students who presented the Acknowledgement of Country at the Principal’s Forum last week. The students created a thoughtful video in which they shared why the Acknowledgement of Country is important and what it means to recognise the Traditional Custodians of the land.
The video also highlighted some of the different ways DCC honours and respects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within our school community. We are proud of the students for their effort, insight and leadership in helping our community continue to learn about and value Australia’s First Nations cultures and histories.
A huge thank you to Yuvakshi Sharma, Fizaa Syeda, Ayaan Shaikh and Aussie Lumb for their work. I was very proud of them. We had several schools reach out to discuss what they had heard and have asked to visit. A shout out to Nick James who supports our students.
Toilets
We are encouraging all students to take care when using the school toilets. This includes using toilet paper and soap properly, flushing after use, and keeping the space clean for others. We are also reminding students that the best time to use the toilets is during recess or lunch breaks rather than during class time, unless it is urgent. We appreciate families reinforcing these expectations at home so we can continue to maintain clean, safe facilities for everyone. Please see my last Compass Post for further information.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN testing begins this week for students in Years 3 and 5. NAPLAN provides a snapshot of student learning in literacy and numeracy at a particular point in time. While it can offer useful information, it is only one part of how we understand student progress. Throughout the year, teachers use a wide range of classroom assessments, observations and learning tasks to monitor student development, inform their planning and support each student’s ongoing achievement and growth.
School Council
The School Council election process has now been completed. Thank you to those members of our community who nominated for positions and for their willingness to support the work of the school. We look forward to announcing the successful nominees shortly and working with our School Council to support the continued growth and development of our school.
Colour Run - Primary Student Only
We are excited to be holding our Colour Run on Wednesday 25 March. This is always a fun event for students and a great opportunity for our community to come together. We encourage families to support the event by helping students raise funds, with all money going towards improvements to our school grounds. Your support will help us continue to enhance the outdoor spaces that our students use every day for learning and play. Thank you in advance for your support and generosity. This is a great opportunity to work together as a community.
Inclusivity
At our school, we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every student is supported to learn and thrive. Some students may have additional needs and may require adjustments or extra support to help them participate fully in school life. We encourage our community to continue showing understanding, kindness and respect, recognising that each student learns and experiences the world in different ways. By working together, we can ensure all students feel supported, valued and included.
As always, thank you to our staff, students and families for the way you continue to work together to support our school. DCC is a wonderful place to learn and grow, and this is made possible through the strong partnerships between home and school. Building a supportive and connected community is incredibly important in helping our students feel safe, confident and ready to learn. We appreciate the ongoing support of our families as we work together for the benefit of all students.
