COMMUNITY SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS
If your child achieves something special (grand final win, most valuable player award, best and fairest etc.), please email me (jordan.daley@education.vic.gov.au) through photos and an overview of the achievement to post in Contact. It is important to celebrate and recognise such successes with the school community.
Thank you,

MENTAL HEALTH IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS
“Some days you’ll wake up with fair-weather eyes and spring from your bed into butterfly skies. Some days feel bumpy and strangely confusing, and it feels like the ground that you’ve gained, you’re now losing. From glumness to glee, you know you’ll push through. Some days are like this, yes, some days that’s true"
As part of our Get, Set, Connect start-up program, students across the school have been exploring the book Some Days You’ll Have Days Like These by Josh Pyke. The central message of the story is simple but powerful: some days will feel wonderful and easy, while others may feel challenging or overwhelming — and that is completely normal.
Our focus has been on helping students identify the coping strategies they can draw on when they experience these different kinds of days. We have been encouraging students to build a personal “toolkit” of strategies to support their wellbeing.
Students have been linking the book to their understanding of the Zones of Regulation, identifying helpful strategies for when they find themselves in the “Red Zone” (big emotions like anger or frustration) or the “Blue Zone” (low energy or sadness). In Grades 5/6, as well as refreshing their knowledge of the zones, students have been exploring the Circles of Control framework — a practical stress-management tool that helps them recognise what is within their control (their thoughts, choices and responses) and what is not (the weather, other people’s actions). This understanding empowers students to focus their energy where it will have the greatest impact.
Through these shared experiences and discussions, we are continuing to build emotional awareness, resilience and a strong sense of connection across our school community. This book and its theme will continue to be used throughout the year in different ways.
Here are some quick, practical tips you can use at home that align with the book, Zones of Regulation, and Circles of Control:
- Use simple language: “Sounds like today was a red-zone kind of day.”
- Share your own examples: “I had a blue-zone moment this morning when I felt really tired.”
- Reinforce that all feelings are normal — it’s what we do with them that matters.
- When your child is upset, gently ask: “Is this something you can control, or something outside your control?” “What is one small thing you CAN do right now?”
- Model Regulation: Children learn most from what they see. Say things like: “I’m feeling frustrated, so I’m going to take a few deep breaths.” “I can’t control the traffic, but I can control how I respond.”
Practise strategies when your child is calm and regulated — not just when they are upset. This makes it much easier to use them during times of difficult emotions.

School camps provide children with inspiring experiences in the great outdoors. Excursions encourage a deeper understanding of how the world works while sports teach teamwork, discipline and leadership. All are a part of a healthy curriculum.
CSEF is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school excursions, camps and sporting activities.
If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or support an out of home care student, you may be eligible for CSEF. A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families.
The allowance is paid directly to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child.
The annual CSEF amount per student is $400 for eligible school students.
If you applied for CSEF last year, you do not need to complete an application form this year unless there has been a change in your family circumstance, eg; new Prep enrolled.
