Nutrien Visit

On Wednesday, Nutrien visited our Beef section to conduct semen testing on our bulls. This process is an important step in determining whether our bulls are ready and suitable for the upcoming breeding season, and it also supports decision-making about purchasing additional bulls if required.

Semen testing, along with attending bull sales, helps students develop a well-rounded understanding of what they are learning in the classroom about breeding, EBVs (Estimated Breeding Values), and bull selection. It was a valuable and highly educational experience for both students and staff.

Bulls Sales

Staff and students attended the Blackrock Bull sale at Boyanup last week Friday. Today eight students and two staff are attending the Venturon Bull sale at Boyup Brook.

Around the Farm

Normal farm activities are ticking along. Students have been busy pasteurising and bottling between 150 and 200 litres of milk each week, while also focusing on driver training and inductions to help progress through the different driving categories.

We have welcomed a new batch of piglets to the farm, and students will be weighing them weekly to monitor feed conversion and weight gain.

Our Horticulture team has been hard at work cleaning up around the younger citrus trees, planting and harvesting produce, and keeping the weeds under control.

Meanwhile, Steve Adams and the students at Sheep have selected the show ewes, which will represent the College at the Perth Royal Show later this year.
