It has been a busy and rewarding start to the school year across the College, and I’m pleased to share some highlights that reflect the outstanding learning, positive behaviour, and strong engagement of our students.
Blackrock Angus Bull Sale – Year 12 Students Shine
Last Friday, I had the great pleasure of accompanying several of our Year 12 students to the Blackrock Angus Bull Sale. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to experience a real‑world industry event, and they represented the College exceptionally well.
I was particularly impressed by the depth of knowledge the students demonstrated throughout the day, especially their understanding of EBVs (Estimated Breeding Values) and the importance of using this information to guide decisions beyond physical appearance.
Visit to the Piggery – Hands‑On Learning in Action
This week I also visited the piggery to see our latest batch of piglets. Our ongoing collaboration with Westpork remains highly valued and continues to offer excellent learning opportunities for our students.
Through this partnership, students are gaining real insight into modern pig husbandry, from nutrition and growth management through to animal welfare standards. It’s fantastic to see how students are engaging with the program and how their understanding of the pork industry is developing.

Safety in the Trades – Year 10s Building Strong Foundations
I also had the opportunity to spend some time in the Trades workshops with our Year 10 students, where students were working through a range of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the various tools and machinery. It’s great to see both staff and students taking safety seriously and recognising its importance.

Student Conduct – A Credit to Our College Community
Finally, I want to acknowledge the outstanding conduct of our students. When you bring 172 young adults together, there is always potential for challenges. But aside from the usual light-hearted banter and the occasional bit of roughhousing, their behaviour has been excellent. What has stood out most is the respect they show to staff, to each other, and to the learning environment.
This is a credit to you, their families. The values you model at home play a significant role in shaping the young people we see each day, and I want to thank you for the positive influence you bring to our College community.
Year 10 Parent Board Representative
Thank you to the parents who have already expressed an interest in joining our College Board. A nomination form, along with a Roles and Responsibilities Fact Sheet, has been emailed to all Year 10 parents. Please ensure your completed nomination is returned to the front office by the closing date.
