CSEN PRIMARY AFL 9'S CHAMPIONSHIPS

With the initial forecast of 12 degrees and heavy rainfall we were all set for a tough day of wet weather football. Pleasingly what eventuated was a beautiful crisp winters day out at the magnificent Bundoora Sports Park.
The vibe was buzzing with a tonne of matches going on all around the venue with both primary and secondary school matches being played across a number of pristine ovals. Our girls team was made up of many girls playing AFL 9s for the first time. Whilst they didn't quiet get the wins they had hoped for they showed huge improvement as a group and even kicked a few goals as the day progressed.
Our boys team on the other hand was made made up of boys who all play competitively on the weekend and were hungry to make finals. They were a strong outfit winning all their pool matches. Some of their link up play and teamwork was super impressive and they took to the Grand Final with confidence winning in convincing fashion.
Big thank to Alyssa C for coaching our girls team, Eden M for being our scorer throughout the day and to all the parents to ventured out to Bundoora to support the teams.

SECONDARY SPORT UPDATE

It's been a big few weeks across Secondary Sport, with students representing BHCS everywhere from CSEN rally days to state-level championships. Whether it was a day of fun and competition or a genuine shot at a state title, the same things showed up again and again — effort, character, and a real sense of connection between teammates.
CSEN Senior Rally Day
Our Year 11 and 12 students headed out for the CSEN Senior Rally Day, competing across Pickleball, 5-a-side Soccer, Spikeball and Ultimate Frisbee. It's always a great day — a chance for our senior students to step away from the pressure of VCE/VM for a few hours and just enjoy being part of a team. And enjoy it they did: two of our girls' Pickleball teams finished 2nd overall, our girls' Spikeball team took out 1st place, and one of our Soccer teams went all the way to 1st as well. A brilliant showing across the board, and a great reminder of why we value competition that's about more than just the score line.
Year 7/8 Boys Netball — Victoria Schools Championship
I took a squad of 12 Year 7/8 boys to the Schools Championships run by Netball Victoria, up against Grammar schools, large Independents, and Chairo — who'd beaten everyone comfortably in Semester 1 CSEN, including us. In wet, slippery conditions, the boys came out firing and won their first three matches, before running into Luther College, who were clearly the best team on the day, we lost that one and the next one. That left one match to go: Chairo, in the final round, with the top two teams progressing to State Championships. The boys wanted this one, and they got it — an 11-10 win, finishing just two points shy of 2nd place overall. More than the result, it was how they played that stood out, hard, honest, and true to who we want our teams to be.
Year 7/8 CSEN — Semester 2 Update
Our Year 7/8 CSEN teams are now well into their Semester 2 campaigns:
Boys Basketball have faced two strong opponents to open the season, sitting 0–2, with both losses by around 10 points.
Boys Soccer have made a statement, winning 13–0 and then 6–1 to sit clear on top of their division.
Girls Volleyball have had two tough losses against tough opposition, but the improvement week to week has been clear — a first win isn't far away.
Girls Netball had an opening bye before a strong 19–6 win in their first outing.
There's still plenty of season left, with finals coming up in Term 4 — plenty of time for these teams to keep building.
Across every one of these events, the thing that stands out to me isn't just the results — it's how our students carry themselves while chasing them. Win or lose, they're competing hard, backing each other, and representing BHCS with the kind of character we're proud to put our name behind.
