A Super-Secret Spanish-Sub Committee Project!
We’ve been keeping a super-secret project under wraps during August… and we’re finally ready to share it!
Led by the amazing Carla Pozo (Lucia's mum from Foundation C), the Spanish Sub-committee has been working behind the scenes to record audiobooks in Spanish, using books already available in our school library, and also classics we have at home. We wanted to create something to support our students, families and Newlands community, while celebrating the beautiful diversity of the Spanish language.
One of the very special parts of this project is that our audiobooks feature Spanish-speaking parents from different countries, including Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Mexico and Spain. This means our children can enjoy stories while hearing a wonderful variety of authentic Spanish accents and voices from our own school community. And what better time to launch this project than BOOK WEEK!
The audiobooks can be enjoyed anytime — in the car, at home, before bedtime, or simply whenever you feel like listening to a story in Spanish. You can also discover which books we have recorded, visit the school library, borrow a copy and enjoy reading the story together as a family.
This is just the beginning! Not all of our recordings are being launched in this first round, and we have many more books and voices to come. The second part of the project, involving our school library, is also coming soon. Our aim is to reach more families at home and encourage our Newlands children to keep reading and enjoying books in Spanish.
