It is amazing to think that we are at the halfway point of term four. Children and teachers have been working hard to complete work samples and assessments to demonstrate their learning in preparation for the reports to go out to families in week 11. Teachers are working hard to collect assessments and accurately record your children's progress and achievements.
I want to congratulate everyone on a successful first week of swimming. The swimming program is such an important part of Physical Education in schools. Living in Australia where we are surrounded by beaches, rivers, lakes, and swimming pools it is so important that children learn to swim and master the fundamentals of Water Safety.
The lesson on Monday 18th is specifically designed to teach your children how to help themselves and others if they get into a dangerous situation in water. Students must bring an old T-shirt and shorts/leggings to wear over swimwear. This is to allow children to experience how much harder it is to swim fully clothed. They will practise rescue scenarios and how to get out of deep water without assistance.
On Monday I counted 19 un-named items in the lost property basket outside the huddle. I will be taking these items to be washed and reused in the second-hand uniform shop. Please take time to check the basket for any missing items, and label any uniform that your child is taking to school.
The students in Foundation have been working hard to master the numbers to ten and the first row of the Hiragana chart. This week we learnt about the festival for children Shichi Go San that celebrates children aged 7, 5 and 3 every year on the 15th of November. Children created Hakama and Kimono the traditional clothes that children wear on the day.
Our end-of-year Book Fair will be set up in the Huddle on Monday the 2nd of December. It will be open from 8.30-9am and 3.30-4pm Monday to Thursday. This is a great opportunity to buy discounted books and every sale helps the school to buy resources cheaply.
There will be no more book club catalogues sent home this year.
