In the last two weeks, we have been learning all about Measurement.
Last week we looked at time and this week we have been learning the language of length. Students measured items outside and compared if it was longer or shorter than their scarf and they also measured themselves and found what was shorter or longer than their body.
Foundation is so much fun!
Year 1 enjoyed working with 3D shapes and used their creativity to build animals and identify their 3D shapes within. Take a look at our work…
Since the end of last Term, the Grade 3s and 4s have been working on writing their own scripts, based on picture storybooks that they had chosen. This week they presented those scripts to their classmates. Great work Grade 3s and 4s!
The 5/6s have been learning to play the keyboard. They have now learnt the 4 chords necessary to play almost any pop song written in the last 50 years, and have been having fun playing a few of these songs.
Why not look up if your favourite song is one of these "4 chord songs"?
In Japanese Foundation students are celebrating the “7-5-3” event in November. In Japan children who are 7, 5, and 3 years old receive long-life lollies in special long bags, wishing them good health and longevity.
Precious Plastic Recycling Program
Last week, our Sustainability Leaders and Wildlife Warriors from Years 1 to 6 joined an inspiring Precious Plastic incursion, funded by our Bank First grant! They explored the environmental impact of plastic, discovered different types of plastics and their recyclability, and learned about innovative ways to repurpose plastic "waste." Using small-scale recycling equipment, they transformed discarded plastics into new, functional items—leaving with handmade pens, carabiners, Jenga blocks, and door knobs. They walked away inspired and empowered to tackle the pressing issue of plastic waste!
In celebration of National Recycling Week from November 10th to 16th, we’re launching our very own Precious Plastic collection program. Families and community members are invited to contribute their waste plastics, which will become part of our STEM lessons. Students will learn to sort plastics, and, with future funding for more equipment, they’ll even start making new products from the collected materials.
This initiative is an exciting opportunity for our entire school community to rethink how we consume and repurpose our waste, creating real, positive change for the planet!
