Aboriginal Education

Celebrating NSW Aboriginal Languages Week

Week 2, we celebrated NSW Aboriginal Languages Week and honouring the rich linguistic diversity of Australia’s First Nations peoples! With over 250 Indigenous languages and more than 800 dialects across the country, it’s more important than ever to raise awareness and support the incredible work communities are doing to reclaim, revitalise, and strengthen our languages.

Language is sacred—it connects us to Country, Culture, and Community. When we keep our languages alive, our culture thrives.

At our school, we proudly represent many different mobs from across the country, and we’re excited to showcase our students speaking in language, keeping the fire burning, and being Blak, Loud, and Proud!

Lyambay Dances

This term, our Lyambay dancers have been giving it their all in rehearsals for this year's School Spectacular: ‘All for One’

A huge shoutout to Sophia, Nya, Jess, and Alexis, who were selected for the prestigious Bangarra Associate Program and travelled to Sydney last week for rehearsals. In Week 7, all of our talented dancers will head to Sydney for another week of practice before performing 4 shows over 2 days on November 29th and 30th. We can't wait to see them shine on stage!

Deadly Science

Earlier this term, Alexis, Angie, Baylin, and Kai had the incredible opportunity to attend the Deadly Science Camp in Melbourne! They dived into hands-on workshops and experiments while connecting with country and learning about the intersection of culture and science. It was an unforgettable experience, where they made meaningful connections with students and staff from all across Australia. We are so proud of them for representing Lyambay with such passion and curiosity!

ABCN Program & Nya's Accelerate Scholarship

For the past several years, our school has been proudly participating in the Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN) program, which helps guide students from Year 9 all the way to Year 12, supporting them in achieving their post-school goals through workshops and mentorship. This year, a special congratulations goes to Nya Quinlan, who has been awarded the ABCN Accelerate Scholarship! As part of the scholarship, Nya will receive a mentor in her chosen career field, a trip to Sydney for a workshop, and financial support for her schooling. We are so proud of you, Nya, and can't wait to see all the amazing things you will accomplish!

Nanga Mai Awards

The Nanga Mai Awards celebrate excellence in Aboriginal Education, and we are thrilled to announce that Sophia-Rose Markham has been selected as this year's award winner for Outstanding Achievement in Public Speaking! Sophia has been a shining role model at ASC, excelling as Vice Captain, a member of our Lyambay Dancers, representing the school in public speaking competitions, and even guest speaking at the AnTAR Reconciliation Bridge Walk. You continue to inspire us all, Sophia. We are incredibly proud of everything you've achieved and can't wait to see where your journey takes you next!

Yarn Up BBQ

Mark your calendars for our last Yarn Up BBQ of the year, happening on Tuesday, December 3rd at 5pm! Come along to celebrate the success of our deadly students, connect with staff, and enjoy a great feed! We look forward to seeing everyone there to wrap up the year together.

Transition Day

Last Tuesday, we had the pleasure of meeting some of our incoming Year 7 students for next year!  It was a fantastic day and we can't wait to welcome these new faces into our school community in 2025!

A huge thank you to Aunty Carol, Tash, Leonie, Jaiden, Judy, and Darby for their continuous support and hard work throughout the term!
